Sustainability at Gut Sonnberghof
From tradition to innovation:
At Gut Sonnberghof, we have developed over the years into a nature hotel through sensitive renovations and a close connection to our mountain environment. We respect the traditions of the organic farm and combine them with modern, sustainable concepts.
Herb gardens, organic farming, and healing methods
Our connection to nature is reflected not only in the breathtaking location of Gut Sonnberghof, but also in the diversity of our organic produce. A wide variety of herbs thrive on our farm. From A for elecampane to Z for lemon verbena – we believe: "There's a herb for everything."
Healthy lifestyle – organic products from our own farm
Our philosophy of sustainability and responsibility is also reflected in the selection of products we offer our guests. In our kitchen, we rely on organic foods that come either directly from our own farm or from regional direct marketers. Our guests can enjoy beef from our own production, homemade whey products, cheese, jam, and many other healthy specialties.
We rely on 100% organic feeding for our animals, species-appropriate animal husbandry, and organic fertilizers. Our Pinzgauer cattle have access to the outdoors at least 160 days a year.
Energy efficiency and environmentally conscious architecture
At Gut Sonnberghof, we pay attention to the careful use of resources in everything we do. Our indoor and outdoor pool, newly built in 2020, is a prime example of our sustainable construction. The new Heavenpool, built in 2024, uses the same technology. It is drained into a holding basin at night and kept warm by well-insulated walls and concrete core activation – similar to a thermos flask. In addition, geothermal drilling ensures that the water is fed at a constant temperature of 31 to 36 degrees Celsius – a sustainable solution that reduces CO₂ emissions.
Our wood-burning stove provides additional heat for the hotel, and solar and photovoltaic systems on the roofs of our buildings provide our energy. This helps us further reduce our ecological footprint.
Sustainability in Architecture and Furnishings
The sustainability of Gut Sonnberghof permeates the entire hotel – from the architecture to the room furnishings. In our spacious rooms and suites, we primarily use wood and Swiss pine, which is not only aesthetically pleasing but also known for its health-promoting properties.
Sustainable Mobility: A Car-Free Experience
The National Park Card, available to our guests, allows them to explore the region without a car. They can use the hiking bus or the scheduled bus for environmentally friendly travel. Attractive hiking trails lead directly from Gut Sonnberghof, allowing guests car-free mobility. Since 2022, we have also been offering a ski shuttle to the nearby ski area, just 5 minutes away – allowing our guests to enjoy nature without having to rely on a car.
Certification with the Austrian Ecolabel
In 2016, we decided to further intensify our environmental activities and commit ourselves to an even more sustainable future with the "Austrian Ecolabel for Tourism Enterprises." With this certification, we have underscored our commitment to environmental protection and are proud to bear this distinction.
Holistic relaxation for body and mind
At Gut Sonnberghof, it's not just about sustainability, but also about the well-being of our guests. Our spacious wellness area with a herbal sauna, lake sauna, Pinzgauer sauna, infrared sauna, and natural swimming pond offers the perfect opportunity to relax and experience the healing power of nature. Our well-trained wellness therapists, yoga classes, and sauna infusions complement the offerings and help our guests find holistic peace.
We are proud to offer our guests an authentic and environmentally conscious retreat. In complete harmony with our philosophy and nature, we warmly welcome you to join us in shaping a sustainable future.
Truly true to the motto: Where nature meets the joy of life!
