Mayflower syrup
Maiwipferl are the small, light green shoots of spruce and fir trees and - as the name suggests - are harvested in May, because at this point they are still very soft and fresh.
Maiwipferl syrup is a natural remedy for coughs and lung diseases. The tasty syrup from the young shoot tips of fir and spruce trees has an antibacterial and expectorant effect. The fresh May leaves contain a lot of minerals, vitamin C, tannins, resins and essential oils.
Important: In order not to damage the trees, you should only take a few laterally growing shoot tips from different trees.
The following ingredients are needed for a Maywipferl syrup:
1 handful of Wipferl, approx. 500ml water, 500g honey, 1 jar with screw cap
Preparation:
Place the tree leaves in a glass and pour the water over them completely. Then place in a warm place for 4 days and shake two to three times daily. Then let the water with the tops simmer gently for about 10 minutes and then pour the strained liquid into a sterilized screw-top jar. Finally, top up with honey, stir well and close the jar.
Tip: The Maiwipferl syrup can be stored in the refrigerator for approx. 1 year!
